FAQs

Does block paving need edging?

Block paving edging is used to form a barrier around block paving driveways. Not only do kerb stones add an aesthetic finish by marking the border of the driveway, but they also help stop the driveway from moving or shifting and provide additional protection against the weather and debris.

Do you install edging before or after block paving?

You should install your kerbs after your block paving is all laid out, to ensure an accurate and straight border. You can fill the joints of your block paving after the edging has been installed too.

How do I lay kerb edging?

Dig a trench around the edge of your driveway block paving, use a taut string line to map out your kerb edging, then lay a cement bed along this line. Lay your kerb edging on top, tapping them down into place with a rubber paving mallet, checking them with a spirit level.

How do I secure block paving edging?

Fill the small gap between each kerb with kiln dried paving sand, brushing it into the gaps to ensure they’re filled properly. You can compact the blocks using a plate compactor and add a final layer of mortar along the top of the blocks and smooth it with a trowel.

How do I cut kerb stones?

To cut your block paving edging, you can use a hammer and chisel or slab splitter for stone edging, or a circular saw or angle grinder with a blade suitable for cutting into masonry.
