Radiators
More information about Radiators
A radiator is an excellent choice when it comes to heating a home. As the name suggests, they radiate heat around the room. There are several different types of radiators to choose from, including central heating radiators that are plumbed in to the central heating system and have hot water pumped through them, electric radiators that are heated by a heating element and wired into the home’s main electrics, and oil-filled or dual-fuel radiators. There are also convector radiators, which are a type of radiator that can be plumbed in or electric – their name comes from their design and the way they provide heat.
What is a convector radiator?
Our single and double radiators section includes various convector radiators, which have a certain design that focuses on convection heat rather than just radiating the heat outwards. A convector radiator features panels with convector fins attached to them, which increases the radiator’s surface area. The convector fins are metal and zigzag shaped, and sit between each panel, heating up evenly – this encourages heat convection and warms the room quicker.
What’s the difference between single radiators and double radiators?
Convector radiators are named after the amount of panels and fins they have. They are often referred to as single panel radiators and double panel radiators, or they have names such as type 11 or type 22 which corresponds to the number of fins and panels they have:
- Type 11 radiators (single panel radiators) have one panel and one set of fins.
- Type 21 radiators (double panel plus radiators) have two back-to-back panels joined with one set of fins.
- Type 22 radiators (double panel radiators) have two back-to-back panels joined with two sets of fins. So, the difference between type 21 and 22 radiators, despite them both being double panel, is the number of fins they have in between.
- Type 33 radiators (triple panel radiators) have three metal panels joined with three sets of fins.
So, put simply, single panel radiators have one panel and double panel radiators have two. When it comes to double radiators vs single radiators, the more panels and fins a radiator has, the higher the level of heat output in the room. A single panel radiator is better suited to smaller rooms due to their smaller size and are often more affordable to install and run - they’re sleeker and won’t stick out from the wall too much as well, making them ideal for minimalistic room designs. A double radiator would be suitable for a larger room that requires higher levels of heat output – they heat up quicker and are generally considered more energy efficient because of their ability to keep rooms at a warm temperature for longer.
Whether you’re after a single convector radiator or a double convector radiator, we’ve got it at Selco.
What single and double convector radiators do we have available?
If you’re after a white radiator, you’re in the right place. We have Type 11, Type 21 and Type 22 white radiators available for you to browse depending on the size of your customer’s room, the level of heat output needed and their personal preferences and tastes. All our radiators feature a white enamel finish and come complete with factory fitted top grilles and side panels. If you’re after white double radiators, there’s the 600mm High Type 22 Double Radiator, or for a white single radiator we have a 600mm High Type 11 Single Radiator.
We stock 400mm, 500mm and 600mm radiators depending on how high you want the radiator to sit on the wall and how much heat you want it to produce, with widths ranging from 500mm to 2000mm. If you want a high amount of heat output but don’t want the radiator to be too imposing in the room, you can opt for a small double radiator like a double radiator 800 x 600mm. We offer various popular sizes including 1000 x 600, 1100 x 600, 1400 x 600,1600 x 600 and 1800 x 600mm double and single radiators. With something for every project, we’re sure you’ll find what you need at Selco.
We also stock column radiators, which feature a more traditional style with hollow metal tubes instead of panels. They’re usually made from iron and are often placed on the floor instead of being attached to the wall. With a rustic design, you can choose from our two, three and four column radiators.
