More information about Floorboards
What are PTG floorboards?
Planed tongue and groove (PTG) floorboards are an excellent choice if you’re working on a home improvement project and need some new flooring. Ideal as either subflooring support beneath carpet or laminate or as an exposed characteristic floor, our range of planed T&G timber floorboards offer a variety of benefits and advantages.
Planed wood is wood that has been planed (smoothed and levelled) on all sides to remove imperfections, leaving a flat, uniform surface with an attractive finish. Tongue and groove edging is a way of securely interlocking boards, with a ridge protruding from one side of a board and a channel cut into the other side for a ridge to slot into. The tongues and grooves of each board are designed to be off set, so they will snugly fit together to create a seamless and stable connection with no gaps, ready to be double nailed securely into your joists to give a traditional softwood floor effect.
The combination of tongue and groove edging and planed wood make our selection of wood floorboards the perfect choice for your latest project. They’re very easy to install, have excellent stability with a reduced risk of warping or shifting over time, and have the added benefit of being able to sand back down again over time to accentuate and renew the pine board’s features.
What types of wooden floorboards do we have available?
We’ve got a couple of softwood floorboards to choose from, including redwood floorboards and whitewood floorboards. Our Whitewood PTG Flooring 125 x 22mm is a solid wood tongue and groove floor timber created from hard-wearing whitewood spruce which is ideal for use as a cost-effective substructure floor underneath carpet or laminate. Or if you’re looking for pine floorboards, our Redwood PTG Flooring 150 x 25mm is a pine tongue and groove flooring made from slow-grown, kiln-dried Scandinavian pine that is solid and incredibly durable, which is ideal for use a subfloor or as a replacement exposed floor in a restoration project for a natural rustic effect.
Remember to fully condition your timber floorboards before installing them (separating the boards to allow them to ventilate and acclimatise to the conditions of the room).
