Door Frames & Lining
More information about Door Frames & Lining
What are door frames and door linings used for?
Door frames are a vital component in installing doors – they're the structures that surround and support a door within a wall. The vertical pieces on either side of the door are called door jambs, or door legs, and the horizontal piece across the top of the door is called the head. The door jambs and head create a door frame, which can sometimes include a bottom jamb or threshold. The door frame set provides stability to internal and external doors and can also be used as the surface to attach latches and hinges onto. If you’ve got a timber door, you’ll probably have a timber door frame, but they can be made from uPVC, composite and metal too.
There are many different terms to refer to door frames and their components: door linings, door casings, door frame trims, door facings and more! The overall door frame structure typically includes the door lining, architrave, door stop and threshold. A door lining, sometimes called a door casing, is the innermost part of a door frame (the vertical jambs and head). Not only do door linings support the door and stop it from sticking or jamming, but they also conceal the gap between the door and the wall to create a cohesive, neat finish. As well as enhancing the appearance and style of a door and the rooms it connects, a door frame can aid soundproofing and insulation too.
What door frames and door lining kits do we have available?
We’ve got a variety of internal door frame kits and door lining sets to choose from depending on your customer’s budget and preferences. We stock various popular door frame sizes and door lining sizes so you can match them to the size of your internal doors and ensure the perfect fit. Our wood door frames can be stained, varnished and painted to your customer’s preference, to match the door itself and the surrounding interior.
You can choose from primed MDF Door Lining that is made from pre-primed MDF with a smooth, white surface, or Rebated Door Casing which features an integrated door stop rebated into the wood. If you’re installing an internal fire door, you’ll need a fire door frame too, such as our Fire Door Lining which is fully certified for use with single leaf fire doors. We also have a full Hardwood Door Frame which is supplied unfinished and ready to be customised.
We even sell Random Door Lining, which can be cut down to size and allows you to create your own, bespoke door lining set.
