More information about Fence Gravel Boards

What are fence gravel boards used for?

Fence gravel boards act as a barrier between your fence panels and the ground. They sit horizontally underneath the panels, protecting them from the wet or damp ground and preventing moisture damage and rotting. If you’re working on a fencing project for a customer, and you want to make sure the finished job will be secure, protected, and long-lasting, you’ll be looking for some gravel boards.

What gravel boards do we have available at Selco?

Concrete gravel boards

Concrete gravel boards are a popular choice, as concrete is much more durable than timber and cannot be penetrated by things such as rot or insects. They might not be as aesthetically pleasing and will contrast slightly with your wooden fence panels, but concrete gravel boards are stronger, longer-lasting and lower-maintenance.

Depending on your customer’s preference you can choose from smooth gravel boards with a smooth, flat face, or rock faced gravel boards for a more textured look. We also have recessed concrete gravel boards, which are recessed to improve stability. You can combine the use of concrete gravel boards with concrete fence posts for a highly durable and stable fencing job. We now even stock a gravel board with a 13cm diameter hole to allow for hedgehogs to roam freely around the neighbourhood.

We have a range of gravel board sizes available, so we’re sure you’ll find what you’re looking for.

FAQs

What is a gravel board?

Fence gravel boards are wooden or concrete boards that are placed underneath fence panels, acting as a barrier between the panel and the wet ground. Gravel boards are predominantly used to protect your fence panels from moisture damage, insects and fungi.

Do you need gravel boards for fencing?

Gravel boards are highly recommended to use with your fence panels to protect them from erosion and moisture damage from the wet ground below. If gravel boards aren’t used, your fence panels might become weak and unstable more quickly over time.

How to cut concrete gravel boards?

For clean cuts, it’s best to buy your concrete gravel boards in the correct size for your project to avoid having to cut them at all. If you can’t avoid having to cut them down to size, you can do this with the correct equipment such as an angle grinder fitted with a diamond disc.

Can you paint gravel boards?

You can paint your gravel boards. The type of paint you’ll need depends on the material of the gravel board – for wooden gravel boards, use a suitable exterior wood paint, and for concrete gravel boards, you’ll want an exterior masonry paint.

Can you drill into concrete gravel boards?

You can drill into concrete gravel boards if you need to, with a hammer drill and a masonry drill bit that’s the right size for the hole that you want.
