More information about Post Cement
What are the benefits of using fence post cement?
Post cement, or post concrete, is used to secure fence posts into the ground in places where extra strength and stability is wanted for the fencing. We’ve got a couple of choices of fence post cement available such as a rapid-setting, ready-to-use Fence Post Concrete from Carlton that is ideal for wooden, metal and concrete fence posts.
Setting fence posts in concrete has many benefits that contribute to the durability of your fencing, so you can make sure you’re completing your project to the highest standard for your customer. Post mix concrete will increase the longevity of the fence by creating a solid foundation that will stop the fence from leaning or shifting over time, which is especially useful in areas where the soil is soft or unstable. The post mix cement will also protect wooden fence posts from rotting and damage from moisture, insects or fungal decay.
No matter which concrete mix for fence posts you choose, both just need to be mixed with water. Simply create a straight line for your fencing, dig holes at regular intervals, insert your fence posts and pour the cement into the hole around the posts and allow it to work its magic.
Using posting cement makes the installation process for your fencing job much quicker and easier, as it requires less digging or backfilling with soil.
So, if you’re looking at ways to make your fencing built-to-last, cementing in posts with a high-performance post cement is a great option. With our products from leading brands such as Carlton offering premium quality and ease of use, we’re sure we’ve got something for every project. Our fence post cement isn’t just for fencing either – it can be used with gazebos, decking and more.

FAQs
How to cement a fence post?
First, dig the right-sized hole for your fence post (usually 3x the width of the post) using a post hole digger or shovel, and lay some gravel at the bottom to help with drainage. Place the fence in the centre, and pour your fence post cement around post evenly, filling the hole. Make sure your fence post is straight and level and leave the concrete to set for the appropriate time.
How to remove a cemented fence post?
To remove a fence post that’s cemented into the ground, first dig a semi-circle around one side of the fence posts concrete base, creating a gap between the concrete and the soil. You can break up the concrete with a bar or breaker, or simply wiggle the fence post back and forth to break the concrete away from the soil and lift it out.
Do fence posts need to be cemented into the ground?
Fence posts do need to be secured into the ground to prevent the posts from lifting or leaning and therefore keeping the fence’s overall structure stable and intact. Cement is the strongest and most durable option to secure your fence posts, but you could backfill the hole with gravel or expanding foam instead.
How long does fence post cement take to dry?
The drying time of fence post cement varies a lot depending on the product used and can take up to anything between a few minutes to a few hours to fully cure. If you’re working on a time-sensitive project you can use fast-setting fence post cement, such as Carlton Rapid Set Fence Post Concrete which sets in just 5-10 minutes.
How many bags of cement do I need for a fence post?
Most fence posts can require anything from 1-10 bags of concrete. The amount you’ll need for your fence post will entirely depend on the size of the fence post and the size of the hole it’s going in. Make sure to read the instructions on your fence post cement to gauge it’s yield and measure your posts and holes accurately to work out how much you’ll need.
