FAQs
How do I lay paving slabs?
The process of laying patio paving slabs can very between different projects, but the general steps will include marking out your area, digging out the patio area and laying your sub-base and a concrete mix mortar bed, then laying the paving slabs individually, tamping them down and making sure they’re level, before pointing (filling in the gaps between the slabs).
How do I cut paving slabs?
In general, circular saws and angle grinders are the best tools for cutting most natural stone paving slabs (make sure to use a specialist masonry blade for cutting stone). You could also use a hammer and chisel or slab splitter.
Can you paint paving slabs?
Yes – you can paint your patio slabs, but the type of paint you use will depend on the material your slabs are made from. Make sure to choose a high-quality, suitable primer and paint, such as a durable exterior masonry paint for natural stone paving slabs.
How to clean paving slabs?
Use a stiff bristle brush and joint scraper to remove debris, dust and weeds between the slabs. You can clean the patio by hand by scrubbing clean, warm water and washing up liquid into the slabs with a hard-bristled brush, or you can use a pressure washer and a specialist paving slab cleaner.
How to stop weeds growing between paving slabs?
The best way to stop weeds growing up between the gaps in your paving slabs is to make sure a proper jointing compound has been used to fill the gaps and seal the patio with a suitable paving slab sealer. To get rid of weeds that have sprouted you can de-weed manually with tools, use a weed killer, or use natural remedies like baking soda or white vinegar.
