SELCO CRANK UP THE MILES FOR FUNDRAISING EXPLOITS
September 30th, 2022Colleagues from across the Selco business have joined forces to take part in two lung-busting challenges to raise more than £15,000 for charity.
A group of 31 colleagues from branches in the West Midlands, south west of England and Wales put their best foot forward for the Thames Path Challenge in London, where participants were challenged to walk 50km in a day.
In addition, more than 20 colleagues took to their bikes to ride the 26 miles between Selco’s Chelmsford and Basildon branches and back again.
All money raised has been donated to our nominated charity for 2022, Cancer Research UK.
Kelvin Coe, our regional director who organised the company’s Thames Path Challenge, said: “It was a brilliant effort from the whole team and there was a great spirit amongst everyone.
“It’s an extremely difficult challenge to walk 50km in a day but everyone gave their all and we all encouraged each other along.
“To raise more than £12,000 for a charity which does such brilliant work as Cancer Research UK makes all the efforts and the blisters after the event seem worthwhile.”
An additional £3,500 was raised from our East London and Essex branches joining forces to complete a 26-mile bike ride over undulating terrain.
Ricky Lugg, a branch manager who organised the event, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people of different cycling abilities taking part. We had some people who get on their bikes multiple times a week and others who hadn’t ridden a bike for many years.
“There were plenty of hills to negotiate which made it a tricky challenge but one which has raised a significant amount for charity.”
