Warrington special school wins materials boost
August 2nd, 2024A specialist school in Warrington is further improving the outdoor facilities for its pupils after winning building materials in our Community Heroes competition.
Fox Wood Special School, on Holes Lane, is the latest good cause to scoop £500 of materials.
The school, which caters for 4- to 19-year-olds with learning disorders, plans to use the funds to buy new fencing for around its teepee.
Rachael Penn, PTA Chair at Fox Wood, said: “We are thrilled to receive this fantastic backing from Selco.
“We work with children with complex learning needs and we want to give them meaningful and exciting opportunities to improve their day-to-day lives and their mental health.
“We recently carried out fundraising activities to buy a teepee but we need to make the area safe. We can’t wait to visit our local Selco in Warrington to buy the fencing and materials we need to do that.
“Budgets are stretched so when companies like Selco step in to help it is a huge boost.”
Over the course of six months, we are awarding 12 groups materials through the ever-popular Community Heroes scheme.
At the end of the campaign, the dozen winners will go before a public vote, with the most supported bagging £5,000 in cash and the runner-up securing £1,000.
Simon Humpage, Head of MultiChannel Marketing at Selco, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Fox Wood Special School, which does amazing work in improving the lives of children with additional needs in Warrington.
“Community Heroes is just one of the ways Selco gets involved with local communities around our 75 branches. It’s a privilege to be able to help community groups and good causes across the country to make tangible differences to their facilities.”
Rachael said the school would buy specialist play equipment, including a wheelchair swing and trampoline, if it was successful in winning the £5,000 jackpot later in the year.
Community Heroes is open to any charity or group which is at the heart of its local community and entry can be made online by explaining in no more than 100 words how the building materials or money would be used to benefit the organisation.
