Selco hit the heights with Lake District Peaks Challenge
October 13th, 2022A team of intrepid explorers from Selco conquered the Lake District Peaks Challenge to raise more than £10,000 for charity.
Our 28 colleagues took on five daunting summits, walking more than 21km and climbing in excess of 14,000 ft.
All the money raised was donated to our nominated charity for 2022, Cancer Research UK, which funds doctors, nurses and scientists to carry out pioneering research to help provide a solution to defeating cancer.
Simon Ball, one of the event organisers, said: “It’s a daunting challenge to complete in a day and everyone should be proud of their finishing times, which were all under ten-and-a-half hours.
“It’s a relentless challenge but the team spirit was fantastic and we all pulled each other through the tough moments.
“We called the event ‘Believe, Achieve, Inspire’ and I’m confident we did all three of those on the day.
“It was brilliant to see different departments of Selco represented at the event, and to raise a significant amount of money for a fantastic charity was the icing on the cake.”
The highlights of the challenge included a trek to the summit of Scarfell Pike, England’s highest peak at 978m.
The other summits were Rossett Pike (651m), Allen Crags (784m), Ill Crag (930,) and Great End (907m).
